RCOM Sponsors funding of $4292.25 to go to Heritage Mississauga for their project Honouring Indigenous Traditions. Heritage Mississauga has worked for many years with the Mississauga’s of the Credit to bring awareness of their traditions and culture. Their 2023 program includes a webinar series, and a video amongst other projects that we are involved in throughout the year. They began a webinar series a few years ago that is called "Indigenous Conversations". We have discussed many topics including traditions, medicines, residential schools, and Truth and Reconciliation. They would like to continue this series in 2023 and bring more of their traditions and culture to light. Their purpose for this project is to educate, to demystify and celebrate our First Nations traditions and ceremonies, showcase their efforts to support healthy living, environmental protections for Mother Earth and how to live in a good way. Focused on topics that will bring understanding of the importance of traditions, they will explore the importance of fire to their culture, the Friendship Treaty with Mississauga, the importance of water and the heritage of the Credit River. They will provide opportunities to ask tough questions in a safe forum through the webinar series and engage audiences with ways to experience ceremonies and traditions.
