The Rotary Club of Mississauga is proud to support environmental stewardship in our community!

On Thursday, October 8, a dedicated team of experts from The Riverwood Conservancy rolled up their sleeves and got their hands dirty to bring a new bioswale pollinator garden to life on the Riverwood property, with support from the Rotary Club of Mississauga.

Beyond adding beauty to this treasured natural space, the garden will provide important ecological benefits that help protect and sustain our local environment.

Why are pollinator bioswale gardens important?

  • Habitat and Forage: Native flowering perennials, such as swamp milkweed and coneflowers, provide essential nectar, pollen, and host sites for bees, butterflies, beneficial wasps, and birds.

  • Supporting Biodiversity: Pollinator gardens help connect fragmented urban green spaces, creating wildlife corridors that support local species and biodiversity.

  • Sustainable and Low Maintenance: Once established, native plants adapted to local conditions require less watering and fertilizing, helping conserve resources while supporting a healthy ecosystem.

  • Beauty Meets Environmental Impact: These gardens enhance the landscape while helping manage stormwater and creating welcoming spaces for nature to thrive.

Congratulations to all the staff and volunteers at The Riverwood Conservancy for making this project happen! We look forward to visiting the garden in the spring to see it bloom and celebrate the flora and fauna that will benefit from this wonderful initiative.
